The Google Gears offline ajax offering looks pretty cool on paper and the source is distributed under the new BSD license. I haven't installed it as I don't have time to digest the Google Gears Terms of Service for Google Reader. One intriguing piece from the T&Cs is

13.3 Google may, at any time, terminate its legal agreement with you if:
(E) the provision of the Services to you by Google is, in Google’s opinion, no longer commercially viable.

Free services not commercially viable whatever next :) I thought they only did this kind of thing to make Microsoft look vulnerable to the FT. At least with Gears an end is in sight where DHH can stop swearing about middle management aspirations :)
