I tried the OpenSource Democracy - Internet TV Platform again after mixed results a few months back and it is very impressive. I basically gives you an RSS reader for video but the good bit is that it downloads clips to your local disk. It also lets you tag and share clips (using BitTorrent).

I'd have to say that this takes away YouTubes edge in playback execution as everything you play (when you get around to it) is local. I think is pretty much kills any business model around contextual advertising for video search. Great application and a large part of it seems to be written in Python. Definitely worth a look if you want vodcasts for the holiday season.
